KATHUA, Aug 24: The sleuths of Excise Department with the assistance of Forest Department personnel thwarted smuggling bid of 280 kilograms of banned forest produce ‘nagchatri’ to outside the State.
As per official spokesperson, a vehicle bearing registration number JK03B-0886 reported at Toll Post Lakhanpur for assessment of the goods. As per the documents enclosed the vehicle was shown loaded with trade goods through NITCO Roadways from Srinagar to Delhi.
During physical check of vehicle, wrong declaration of goods was found in one of the GRs pertaining to M/s WD Seed Agency, Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar and consigned to M/s Kamal Talwar, Azadpur Fruit Mandi, Delhi.
“280 kilograms of banned forest produce (Nagshatri) was found instead of vegetable seeds reflected in the document, which was seized on the spot”, spokesman added.
The team of Forest Department headed by Munish Gupta, Range Officer, Lakhanpur assisted the team of the Excise Department that comprised Excise and Taxation Officers GL Sharma, Wender Singh Billoria and Shamsuduha, Inspectors lshtyaq Ahmad and Javed lqbal, Sub-Inspector Balwinder Singh and Excise Guards Sohan Lal and Ashwani Kumar.
Meanwhile, continuing with its drive to nab the evaders who use private cars/drivers for clandestine import of goods, the joint team of Excise and Commercial Taxes Departments fined four cars under J&K Levy of Tolls Act, 1995/ J&K VAT Act, 2000, for trying to carry taxable goods by evading taxes.
