Kathua, Oct 1: Continuing with their drive against evaders, the sleuths of Excise Department at Toll Post Lakhanpur foiled an attempt of smuggling of liquor into the State.
During the routine checking of vehicles at Car/Jeep lane, a vehicle (Mohindra Bolero) bearing registration No.JK02BJ-9100 was found to be carrying 12 bottles (750 ml) and 01 bottle (2000 ml) of Blender’s Pride whisky, all meant for sale in the Union territory of Chandigarh only. The entry of any type of liquor item into State requires necessary permission from the Excise authorities, which was not available in the instant case.
The offence attracts punitive action under the J&K Excise Act, Smvt 1958. The accused alongwith the vehicle and seized liquor has been handed over to the Excise & Taxation Officer, Kathua Range, for further action under the Excise Act.
This was stated in a handout issued by the Department here, today.
