Bid to smuggle poppy straw foiled, 3 arrested

RAJOURI, June 3: Police today foiled an attempt of smuggling poppy straw and seized the narcotic substance besides arresting three accused in this connection from Thanamandi area.
A team of police, headed by SHO Thanamandi Javed Malik along with cops from SOG, was on routine vehicle checking duty when a Tavera vehicle with registration number JK04B 6109, coming from Srinagar towards Rajouri, was stopped at naka point and put to thorough physical frisking.
During frisking, 1.5 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from the possession of three persons boarding in the vehicle, who were identified as Rangeet Singh of Sangherha Burnama Punjab, Mohammad Altaf of Chirar-e-Sharif, Budgam and Mohammad Farooq of Badakanna Thanamandi.
All the three persons were arrested and the vehicle along with poppy straw was seized on the spot. A case FIR Number 95/2019 under Sections 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered in this connection at Police Station Thanamandi.
Meanwhile, continuing its drive against spread of drug menace, police took into preventive custody six persons for their involvement in unlawful activities including peddling of narcotics. These six persons include four from Thanamandi and two from Rajouri.
Those from Thanamandi were identified as Shahzad Ahmed of Darhal, Touseef Ahmed of Dodasan Bala, Mohammad Tahir of Behrote and Shabaz Ahmed of Darhal. All have been booked under Sections 107/110/151 CrPC and lodged in District Jail Rajouri on the orders of Executive Magistrate First Class Thanamandi. A Tata Sumo JK11A-8886 and a Tiago car without registration number have also been seized from their possession.
Mohammad Rafiq and Mushtaq Ali of Kheora were detained in Rajouri as a preventive measure under Sections 107/151 CrPC and were produced before Executive Magistrate Ist Class Rajouri.
