Bihar CM Nitish Kumar resigns

PATNA: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today resigned following poor performance of his party JD(U) in Lok Sabha elections.

Sources said that Mr Kumar sent his resignation letter to Bihar Governor D Y Patil for acceptance.

Mr Kumar, however could not be contacted for his version on the issue.

It may be recalled here that several leaders including former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and others had demanded resignation of Mr Kumar for poor performance of his party in Lok Sabha elections in Bihar.

Demanding resignation of Mr Kumar, Mr Modi had pointed out that Mr Kumar should take moral responsibility for the poor performance of his party in election.

In political circles, speculation was rife over the uncertainty of the continuance of Nitish Kumar Government after poor performance of the JD(U) in Lok Sabha election.

There were also reports of some senior ministers of not being happy over the style of functioning of Mr Kumar.  (AGENCIES)
