WASHINGTON, Dec 7: The Bilateral Security Agreement, currently being negotiated between the United States and Afghanistan, is expected to address the status of US forces in this war-torn country post-2014 when all the US troops are scheduled to withdraw from there.
“The Bilateral Security Agreement is expected to address the status of United States forces,” Caitlin Hayden spokesperson National Security Council, said yesterday in response to a question during the press briefing.
“Provisions on jurisdiction are an essential element of SOFAs (status of forces agreement) around the world,” she said.
“We will negotiate to ensure that our personnel would have the authorities and protections that they need to operate in Afghanistan after 2014 should the President decide they will do so,” she said.
“As is true elsewhere around the world, US forces in Afghanistan are at all times subject to the US Uniform Code of Military Justice,” Hayden added.
The White House official was responding to a question on the possibility of immunity to US troops in Afghanistan after 2014. (PTI)
