JAMMU, Nov 9: A team of orthopedic surgeons led by Dr Sanjeev Gupta, Associate Professor and Head of Unit, Department of Orthopaedics, Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu assisted by Dr Neeraj performed total Knee Replacement Surgery on a 67 year old patient who was suffering from osteoarthritis of both her knees.
Patient was having pain in both her knees and was unable to walk comfortably. Both her knees were replaced at the same time.
Though knee replacements are being done routinely at GMC Jammu but this was the first time that both the knees were replaced in the same sitting in entire Jammu Province.
Dr Sanjeev Gupta informed that patient is now walking comfortably without pain and is very happy with the result.
Anaesthesia was given by Dr Arti under the supervision of Dr Smriti, HoD, Anaesthesia Department.
Prof Anil Gupta, HoD Department of Orthopaedics, GMC Jammu informed that the patients in whom joint replacement is done have to stay in the hospital only for 5 to 7 days after the surgery.
He further informed that getting joint replacement done at GMC is very economical as patient has to pay only for the consumable items. He emphasized that people from the region do not need to go outside the State for joint replacement surgery where it is very much costly and cumbersome.
