This has reference to the news item ‘New bill on crimes against women to come up before Cabinet DE Mar 12.
The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, which proposes jail term to a rape convict for his entire life will certainly prove a harsh detterant against rape.
Though there was a great demand for Capital punishment after protests rocked several parts of the country when a medical students was gang raped, the ‘life term’ is no less than that.
Rather, it is more harsh than capital punishment. A person will have to experience the consequences of his act throughout life.
Besides, the changes enacted in the Bill scam to be quite plausible in the present circumstances.
The Government shall have no hesitation in seeing it through.
