This is first bill of present Omar Abdullah Government tabled in the Legislative Assembly. The bills will be taken up for pass motion in the House on March 25.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary tabled bill in the House on behalf of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who holds charge of the Finance Department,
The bill has been titled Jammu & Kashmir Goods and Service Tax (Amendment) Bill 2025. The bill seeks to align J&K’s GST law with the amendments carried out in the Central Goods and Services Tax law.
The amendments are regulatory in nature i.e. to regulate tax and as such the bill doesn’t involve recurring and non-recurring expenditure.
After the imposition of Central rule in J&K in 2018, the Legislative powers of the Assembly were vested with the Parliament.
“There is no involvement of any recurring or non-recurring expenditure from and out of the consolidated fund of J&K,” the Minister in-charge Finance said.
The Lt Governor has in pursuance of Sub-sections (1) and (3) of Section 36 of the J&K Reorganization Act, 2019, recommended that the J&K Legislative Assembly introduce the bill.
