Bill soon to eradicate polythene

SRINAGAR, June 8: Government will soon come up with a legislation to make use of polythene in the State a cognizable offence, Legislative Council was informed today.
Minister of Law and Justice Abdul Haq today informed the Council that the Government will come up with a legislation to make use of polythene a cognizable offence.
Replying to a question of S Charanjeet Singh, the Minister said, to eradicate the menace of polythene the Forest Ministry would soon come up with a legislation to make the use of polythene a cognizable offence.
He said his Ministry is assisting the Forest Ministry in the same and would soon come up with the relevant legislation.
Haq said, under ‘My Village, My World’ campaign, Rural Development Department has also launched a campaign against use of polythene, giving powers to block development officials to impose fine on people for using it.
