Bill tabled in RS to prohibit child labour in hazardous jobs

NEW DELHI, Dec 4:
Union Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge today tabled in the Rajya Sabha a Bill that seeks to further amend the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, by prohibiting employment of children below 14 years in hazardous occupations in the country.
The Child Labour (Porhibition and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2012, under a new section 3A seeks to prohibit the employment of child labour below the age of 14 years in certain hazardous occupations and processes.
Violators face punishment with imprisonment from one year to three years or a fine ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000.
It will enhance the punishment from the earlier six months and two years.
Under the Act, the occupations defined as hazardous includes mines, inflammable substances or explosives and hazardous process.  (UNI)
