Billawar residents take out rally demanding district status

KATHUA, June 12: On the call of the Billawar Zila Andolan, the people observed complete bandh.
The people took out rally through bazaars of Billawar protesting the announcement of Additional DC for Basholi ignoring the demand of District for Billawar.
Hundreds of people from different areas of Billawar, Ramkote, Macchedi and Mahanpur tehsils participated in the day long protest in front of Tehsil Office Billawar and later submitted memorandum to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti through Tehsildar Billawar demanding immediate creation of Billawar District.
The people of the area are anguished over the move of the State Government to deny district status to Billawar. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who visited Basholi on June 9 along with senior Ministers, stated that the demand of the district of hilly belt of Kathua district is genuine and announced creation of Additional DC Basohli as interim solution.
The protest rally was addressed by Convener of Billawar Zila Andolan Advocate Hari Chand Jalmeria, BR Upadhiaya, Shanti Sarup Basotra, Mohan Lal Verma, Romi Khajuria, Durga Dass Upadhiaya, Kuldip Basotra and many others.
Jalmeria, in his address said that they have been fighting for the demand of creation of Billawar District from over three decades. By keeping the district headquarter at Kathua, people of Billawar and adjoining areas have been subjected to suffering, he said, adding that Billawar is centrally located place and Billawar Zila Andolan has selected Billawar as center for district headquarter with consensus.
Billawar Zila Andolan has decided to hold massive rally on June 17 at Billawar headquarter.
