JAMMU, June 18: Former deputy mayor of Jammu and senior BJP leader Baldev Singh Billawaria today visited Hakkal Panchayat of RS Pura-Jammu South constituency and listened to the problems of the people by organizing a public darbar.
The purpose of this Janata Darbar was to listen to problems being faced by people and to settle them on the spot. The main demand of the residents was to stop the canal water flowing on Hakkal Panchayat Road. Local residents told Billawaria that due to the flow of canal water on the road, they are facing a lot of problems in commuting and they have to walk or drive through about half-a-feet of water. Rather, two-wheeler drivers have to face more problems on this road.
Former Sarpanch Kunti Devi informed Billawaria that this road comes under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The work on this road was done every one and a half years but blacktopping has not been laid on the road for the last three years. Billawaria assured that the demand would be taken up with the LG Government so that farmers and villagers do not face any inconvenience. Billawaria also spoke to the higher officials over the phone regarding this matter and apprised them of the problems of the area.
Talking to the media, Billawaria said that a number of intellectuals and other people of the area attended the darbar, highlighting numerous problems faced by them. Some issues were resolved on spot while others were communicated to the concerned department officials, who assured that the same would be resolved at the earliest.
Billawaria further said that such regular contact programs enable the public to have better knowledge of the problems faced by them. He said that every effort will be made to do the development work that is left in the Panchayat.
Former Sarpanch of Hakkal Kunti Devi, Panch Sudesh Kumari, Rajinder Singh, Sudesh Kumar, Suriender Chib and Vijay Kumar were also present in the Janta Darbar.
