JAMMU, Aug 2: A function of women workers of National Conference (NC) was held at Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan here today under the chairpersonship of MLA Bimla Luthra, wherein the sewing machines and electric irons were distributed among the poor women.
Rattan Lal Gupta, State vice president, NC, was the chief guest of the function. In his address, Gupta lauded the role of great women leaders in the freedom struggle. He said that the NC is always committed for the cause of the women in the State for which Madr-e-Mehraban also played a great role.
Gupta said that the State Government has given 33% reservations to the women at the grass root level democratic institution such as Panchayats and local bodies so that the women can play their role for the developmental activities of their respective areas. The UMEED progamme is also women oriented programme under which initiative 90,000 women self help groups are to be provided with livelihood opportunities by the NRLM, he added.
Bimla Luthra asserted that the NC is committed for equitable development of all the three regions of the State with special focus on the development and welfare of women folk. She appealed the gathering to work hard for the strengthening of National Conference and its leadership.
She distributed 40 sewing machines and accessories out of her CDF to the poorest of the poor women of Bishnah Block so that they may earn their livelihood.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, provincial secretary, SS Bunty, provincial president YNC, Rajesh Bakashi, district president Jammu Urban were among many others present on the occasion.
