JAMMU, Oct 17: State vice president of women wing, National Conference, Bimla Luthra accused the incumbent Government at the Centre of conspiring with J&K Administration to destroy the socio-cultural fabric of J&K through various Government decisions and orders.
She lamented that as if all the sufferings of people were not enough that the Government gave green signal to sale of beer and like beverages at provision stores. She said that it has the full potential of changing the ‘City of Temples’ into ‘City of Liquor’. She said this while leading a strong protest march organized against the pressing issues confronted by the people of J&K due to the wrong policies of the Government. The protest march commenced from Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan, here today.
Talking to reporters during the protest, Bimla Luthra said that the people across the State are being made to suffer in absence of a representative Government for no fault of theirs. She asserted that the Government has virtually broken the spine of common people due to its anti-people policies the results of which are visible to everyone. She lamented “What an irony that Jammu, known across the nation as the ‘City of Temples’ is being converted into a ‘City of Liquor’ by the Administration by promoting and expanding the reach of beer and other beverages to every area of the city through the medium of Provision stores.”
Bimla said that basic amenities have become out of common man’s reach with the rocketing hike in prices. She said that the cooking gas cylinder having reached Rs 1100 has become unmanageable for substantial number of households. The hike in the power tariff has yet again complicated the financial management of the households of the common people.
Among those who joined the protest include Bharti, Jyoti, Savita, Pinki, Tilki, Rajni and others.
