Biomedical waste

Sir,
This refers to news article on Govt’s failure to acquire land for setting up biomedical waste management facilities for Jammu & Srinagar cities (Excelsior Dec 14th) . In-fact I had written a detailed piece on this issue last year titled ” Treatment of Biomedical waste (Nov 13th 2019).
Our health institutions, health administrators and senior faculty of community medicine department of GMC Jammu and Srinagar off and on discusses about unscientific waste management and its effects on human health but they never discuss the hazards of biomedical waste which is generated by the hospitals across state. Govt hospitals of J&K are unscientifically disposing off biomedical waste and in many places this life-threatening waste is dumped in water-bodies and I myself saw this illegal activity been undertaken in Poonch town last year in June. The local District hospital disposes off all the biomedical waste generated in the hospital in Poonch river. This waste includes left over syringes, dressing material , injection vials , human body tissues etc. In absence of biomedical waste management facility at district level , the situation has become very much alarming. Hope this is addressed at an earliest.
