JAMMU, Oct 2: Birth anniversaries of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri were celebrated today with great enthusiasm by various educational institutions, political-social organizations and Government departments across Jammu and Kashmir.
IIM Sirmaur today organized a talk by Rajeev Nambiar, Director- Institutional Programs and Senior Trainer at The Art of Living Foundation, on the theme ‘Unleashing Your Inner Peace’, through online mode.
Nambiar highlighted the importance of inner peace to combat the overwhelming emotions that manifest into anger. He used the analogy of Mahatma Gandhi’s Swacch Bharat to bring out the true essence of cleanliness which encompasses both physical and mental aspects of cleanliness. Paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries and commemorating International Day of Non-Violence, Professor Neelu Rohmetra, Director Indian Institute of Management, Sirmaur, encouraged the audience to imbibe the life principles of these great personalities. She highlighted the immense importance of peace, happiness and positivity in human life and stressed that inner peace is essential to radiate peace outside and that self-introspection is a precursor to seeking inner peace. Earlier, Dr Sanjay Singh, faculty IIM Sirmaur coordinated the session and presented introductory remarks on leadership and non-violence. The session ended with a ‘Non-Violence’ pledge taken by all the participants.

On Gandhi Jayanti, Prof. J.P Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu launched ‘Swachhta Abhiyan’ Pakhwada for cleanliness as a prelude to Gandhi Jayanti celebration at R.S Pura campus under the aegis of NSS initiative. Prof. Sharma remembered Gandhi Ji’s thoughts and teachings and asked the gathering to follow them in spirit and practice.
Prof. Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 152nd birth anniversary. On this occasion a campus cleanliness drive was also organized by Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Cell of the University.
NSS unit of Government College of Engineering & Technology, Jammu celebrated 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav-Celebration of India’s 75 years of Independence’ and organized a cleanliness drive with theme ‘Clean Your Surrounding.’ The event was held under the patronage of College Principal, Dr. Sameru Sharma.
NSS unit of Government College of Education Jammu organized an online Pledge Taking Ceremony on Gandhi Jayanti. All the students, faculty and staff participated in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kulvinder Kour (Principal of GCOE) said that nowadays it is very important to uplift the values and ideas of Gandhi among all the students as well as teachers.

Kawa College of Education, Patoli, Jammu celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with enthusiasm. The programme started with traditional lighting of lamp by Er. M.S Katoch, Chairman Kawa Group of Colleges, Abimanyu Katoch, M.D and others after which floral tributes were paid to Father of the Nation.
On Gandhi Jayanti, ‘Online Swachhta Pledge’ was administered by NSS Units of Government SPMR College of Commerce. College Principal, Prof. R.S Jamwal and HoD English, Prof. Archana Kaul said that Gandhi Ji dreamt of a clean India and emphasized on cleanliness and sanitation as integral parts of living.
National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadets Corps (NCC) wings of Government College for Women Parade Ground Jammu celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and International Day of Non Violence. The programme was held under the guidance of College Principal, Dr. S.P Sarswat which also included a visit to Darbar-e-Aam at Mubarak Mandi.
To commemorate 152nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a cultural bonanza was presented by NSS volunteers, cadets of 2 J&K Girls Bn and students of Music Department of Government PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Through the mesmerizing music, thumping beats, poems and speeches, students revisited the Gandhian Philosophy.
NSS Unit of GGM Science College Jammu celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and organized a lecture to aware the students about relevance of Gandhian philosophy and to inspire positive approach towards its importance. The ceremony was organized in the presence of College Principal, Dr. Ravender Tickoo and faculty members.
Government MAM College, Jammu celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in a two-day activity under the banner of IQAC and the patronage of College Principal, Dr. G.S Rakwal. The two-day activity included intra-college Poster Making competition on the theme ‘Celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s Legacy’.
Government College for Women Bhagwati Nagar celebrated Gandhi Jayanti under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and Shikshit Bharat. A documentary ‘Gandhi Ji – A great Soul of 20th Century’, was shown to the students and staff of the College and it highlighted many successful campaigns initiated by Gandhi Ji in his fight against British rule in India.
Government Degree College (GDC) Nagrota organized three day inter-college programme to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti under the supervision of Principal of College, Dr. Nalini Pathania. Students of various colleges participated enthusiastically in different events like delivering a video-message on Gandhi Ji’s teachings, poster-making competition on Swadeshi movement etc.
Cultural Committee of GDC Sidhra organized an online Poster Making Competition to commemorate the 152nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on the theme ‘shaping peace together’. College Principal, Dr. Monika Sharma motivated the students with their enthusiastic participation and also congratulated the participants for their participation in the event with full enthusiasm.

Bharat Scouts and Guides District Udhampur celebrated birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. On this occasion, Chairperson BBSVP, Swami Chinmay Jyoti and Vijay Kumar, District Organizing Commissioner garlanded the portraits of Gandhi Ji and Shastri Ji and this followed speeches and discussions on contributions of Gandhi Ji for freedom movement and contributions of Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji in nation building.

GDC Mahanpur celebrated Gandhi Jayanti to commemorate 152th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Students of the College organized an online poetry recitation on Gandhian Philosophy.
On Gandhi Jayanti, GDC Banihal organized a seminar and cleanliness drive. The programme was organized by Deepak Kumar, PTI and coordinated by Prof. Ram Parkash, HoD Mathematics and Prof. Ajay Kumar, NSS Programme Officer under the overall supervision of Dr. Manohar Lal, College Principal.
NSS unit of GDC Jindrah celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri under the theme ‘Har Din Paavan’. The celebrations began with the lightening of ceremonial lamp by Prof. Rajshree Dhar, Principal GDC Jindrah in the presence of the staff and volunteers.
To commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, GDC Ukhral organized an essay writing competition on the theme ‘Gandhian Philosophy of Truth and Nonviolence’. Principal of the College, Prof. Ranvijay Singh in his message said that there is urgent need to cherish and follow the philosophy of truth, unity and harmony as given Gandhi Ji.
To commemorate birth anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, The Literary Club of GDC Ramkote organized a weeklong series of events under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav. These activities included plantation drive, quiz competition, peace pledge, cleanliness drive and a symposium on the theme ‘Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in present times.’

On Gandhi Jayanti, statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava’ at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 Gandhi Nagar, Jammu by the chief guest, Dr. D. Manjunath, Deputy Commissioner, KVS Jammu Region. On this occasion an Astronomy Lab was also inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner. The creation of the lab has been done with the generous contribution by Shiv Nadar Foundation under the guidance of the Principal Chief Advisor, Government of India.
Principal, Staff and some students of class 12th of Mother India Sr. Sec. School, R.S Pura paid floral tributes to Mahatama Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on the occasion of their birth anniversaries. In memory of the duo, Sonia Tohra, Principal of the School lit a candle and cut a cake to celebrate the day in presence of all the staff members.
The 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi Ji was celebrated at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Gho Brahmana, Samba with Swachhata Pledge ceremony. Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by Sarvodaya International Trust J&K Chapter (SITJKC) with children and members of Bal Gran at Channi Himmat. The programme started with a prayer song by all followed by participation of many children in sharing valuable thoughts of Mahatama Gandhi.
Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar paid rich tributes to Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi in a function organized by Gandhi Global Family (GGF) at Diwan-e-Aam, Mubarak Mandi, Jammu. On the occasion, GGF conferred the award in twelve fields to various veterans for their outstanding services. Ch Rashid Azam Inqlabi was conferred Mahatma Gandhi Seva Puraskar for his outstanding service in the fields of tribal welfare and social work.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Raghav Langer unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in his Office Complex to mark Gandhi Jayanti celebration and paid floral tributes to him by garlanding his statue. He threw light on the life history of Bapu Ji and said that his life itself was a message. During the event, cultural performances were also presented by the artists of J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages.

BJP general secretary (Organization) Ashok Kaul paid tributes to Gandhi Ji and Shastri Ji at Satwari Chowk and Bishnah. Jugal Kishore Sharma paid tributes at Ward 30, Ward 31, Ward 41, Ward 14 at Talab Tillo and other places. Sat Sharma paid tributes at Ward 30, Ward 41, Ward 41 and Ward 14.
Yudhvir Sethi participated in Swachta programs at Ram Talai Ward 2, Swami Vivekanand Centre Ward 7, Ward 10 and Ward 19. Sunil Sharma participated in Swachhta programs at Awantipora, Khannabal and other places in Kashmir. Vibodh Gupta participated in Swachta program at Talab Tillo, Akhnoor and other places. Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal participated in Swachhta programs at Arun Jaitley Stadium Hiranagar, Basantar Ghat and other places at Samba. Priya Sethi paid tributes at various sites and also visited Gandhi Bhawan to purchase Khadi items. J&K BJP vice president Aseem Gupta celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by purchasing Khadi products form Khadi Gram Udhyoog.
JKPCC held an impressive function at PCC Head Quarters Shahidi Chowk to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti in which rich floral tributes were paid to the great leader. The function was attended by prominent leaders of PCC, DCC and frontal organizations under the chairman ship of Raman Bhalla vice president PCC. Floral tributes were also paid to former Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri on his birth anniversary. In Srinagar office also, the JKPCC leaders paid floral tributes to both the freedom fighters and recalled their selfless services and sacrifices for the Nation. The function was chaired by senior party leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir and attended by other leaders
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Swachhta pledge ceremonies were held in Police establishments across Jammu and Kashmir. The main function was organized in the lawns of Police Headquarters, Srinagar. ADGP Coordination PHQ, Danesh Rana administered Swachhta pledge to officers/officials of Police Headquarters Srinagar, CID Headquarters, ACB Headquarters and Security Headquarters. The Pledge ceremony was attended by Special DGP, CID J&K R R Swain, ADGP Traffic J&K T Namgyal and DPT J&K Mushtaq Ahmad.
To mark the occasion, Swachhta Abhiyan was initiated by Police of Jammu Zone. All the Police Station premises and district Police offices were cleaned through a special drive in which all officers and jawans of J&K Police participated. At the Zonal Police Headquarters, Jammu, ADG Mukesh Singh and his staff cleaned their office premises and also the nearby areas of Panjtirthi. The ADG also administered Swachhta Pledge to his staff.
A function was also organized by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Udhampur to pay tributes to the Father of the Nation. The function was chaired by DLSA Udhampur Y P Bourney (Principal District & Sessions Judge) and Secretary DLSA Udhampur Rajni Sharma (Sub-Judge). Also a Prabhat Pheri was organized on the occasion wherein placards for legal awareness were displayed. All the Panels Lawyers and PLVs participated in both the programmes. Such programmes also organized by TLSC Chenani, TLSC Majalata and TLSC Ramnagar at their respective places.
Rich tributes were today given to the Father of the Nation on his birth anniversary at Apni Party Office in Gandhi Nagar. All senior party leaders, women wing leaders, and district presidents also participated in the function. After paying floral tributes to Gandhi Ji, Provincial president, Jammu, Manjit Singh remembered his contribution to the nation in achieving independence from British Rule. Tributes to Gandhi Ji and Shastri Ji were also paid at Sainik Colony by party leader Amit Kapoor and others.
Led by vice president JKPCC Mula Ram and DCC Jammu Rural president Hari Singh Chib, the District Congress Committee (DCC) Jammu Rural paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation and former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries at Raipur-Domana. Uday Bhanu Chib president J&K Youth Congress also participated in the function.
JKPCC leaders led by former minister and former JKPCC president Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed paid tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary. All senior leaders of JKPCC participated in the function.
J&K Pradesh Youth Congress today took out a Tiranga march on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri birth anniversary at Bahu Fort in Jammu. The march was led by Raman Bhalla, vice-president JKPCC, Manmohan Singh general secretary JKPCC and PYC president Uday Bhanu Chib.
Sainik Welfare Department J&K organized cleanliness campaign at all Zila Sainik Boards across J&K on the occasion of the Gandhi Jayanti. The staff also took a pledge to adhere to and promote the mission. The occasion was also utilized to organize a meeting of the ESM at the Rajya Sainik Board office at Jammu. Honorary Capt Bana Singh graced the occasion.
District Police Jammu organized Swacchta Pledge in all police establishements in the district. At District Police Lines, Swachhta Pledge was administered to officers and officials by SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli. Similar events were held in sub divisional police offices, police stations and police posts.
To mark the occasion, J&K Armed Police Headquarters organized Sawachhta Pledge ceremony in the lawns of the APHQ Complex Srinagar. Javed Ahmed Dar SSP Staff Officer to IGP Armed/IR Kashmir Zone administered the Sawachhta Pledge to the participants.
Department of Horticulture, Kashmir celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by kick-starting Swachh Bharat Mission (Clean India Programme) at Directorate of Horticulture, Rajbagh. Director General Horticulture Kashmir Ajaz Ahmad Bhat officiated the “Swachha Pledge” to the employees. He also initiated and led the sanitation drive at the premises of Horticulture Complex Rajbagh, Srinagar.
Railway Police, Katra celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by taking Swachhta Pledge at GRP Lines Katra in which SSP Railways Katra Sanjay Kumar Kotwal, SDPO Railways Katra, SHO GRP Katra along with all officers and officials of GRP Sub-Division Katra participated with great enthusiasm. GRP Sub-Division Udhampur also celebrated the occasion by taking Swachhta Pledge at all police stations/police posts of the Division.
Cleanliness drives on Gandhi Ji were also organized at all GRP police posts in Jammu. On the occasion, Pledge taking ceremony was held at GRP Lines in Jammu. SSP Railways Jammu Arif Rishu, Additional SP Paramjeet Singh, SDPO Railways Jammu Albeena Malik and Deputy SP DAR GRP Lines Naresh Kumar along with other officers/officials took pledge.
In connection with Gandhi Jayanti, Fit India Freedom Run 2.0 under the guidance of CEO Jammu Suraj Singh Rathore and supervision of ZEO Suneeta Gupta was organized at Zone Satwari. Deputy SP South Jammu Parshotam Kumar flagged off the Marathon from Satwari to Gandhi Nagar and all staff and students from all Middle Schools of Zone Satwari participated in the Marathon.
To mark the occasion, a cleanliness programme was jointly organized by National Developmental Organisation and Public Technocrats Society Jammu in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority Rajouri. The programme was inaugurated by Sub Judge Surrinder Kumar Thappa, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Rajouri by chanting of ‘Vaishnav Jana To Tene Re Kahiye, Ye Peed Prayed Jane Re’ and the event was presided over by Principal District and Session Judge Rajouri.
Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur also organized Swachhta Pledge ceremony to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. Sunmati Gupta, Assistant Director (Administration) SKPA Udhampur took Swachhta Pledge along with staff and trainee officers.
Cyber Police Station as a part of Clean India Mission Campaign organized Swachhta Abhiyan in the premises of Cyber Police Station. Officers and officials of Police Station under the supervision of SP Cyber Cell Naresh Singh and Priyanka Kumari, Deputy SP Cyber, took Swachhta pledge.
A function to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti was organized at the Block Office of Block Head Quarter Maira Mandrian. DDC member Pt Suresh Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. The DDC member along with all other sarpanchs and children took oath of keeping their surroundings clean. Later, Sharma also flagged off a rally in which Sarpanchs, Panchs, children, teachers and officials of Block office took part.
To mark the occasion, ‘Clean India Programme’ was launched in Block Kharah Balli by DDC Member Bhushan K Bral and BDC Chairperson Dwarka Nath. All sectoral officers including Vice Principal of GHSS Kharah, Forest officer, Sarpanchs and Panchs of all panchayats were present in the event. Swachhta Pledge was administered to the students on the occasion.
On the occasion of birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, BJP OBC Morcha paid tribute to them and organized social programs like sanitation drive and awareness drives at different places. The workers of OBC Morcha cleaned parks and road portraits of Mahatama Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Dulhasti Power Station celebrated the Day with great enthusiasm. On the occasion, Nirmal Singh, General Manager (In-charge), Dulhasti Power Station, Dr Nisha Sharma, General Manager (Medical Services), R N Sharma, General Manager (Civil) and other senior officials paid floral tributes to the Father of the Nation as well as former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Patnitop Development Authority celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with a host of activities in line with its cleanliness related initiatives including Green Patnitop Clean Patnitop, and Carry the Trash Back. Tourists and various officials gathered at Padora Meadows, Patnitop to pay homage to Gandhi Ji. This was followed by a cleanliness drive led by Sher Singh (CEO PDA) at Padora, entire circular road, main meadow, VIP Park and nearby areas.
A program was also organized by BDO office Maira Mandrian to celebrate birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. BDC Sushma Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. The progarmme was attended by all Sarpanchs and Panchs.
To celebrate the occasion, District Police Samba conducted cleanliness drive and Swachhta Pledge ceremony at District Police Lines and at other subordinate units of Samba Police. SSP Samba administered the oath of cleanliness to the Police Jawans at DPL Samba whereas at other Police subordinate units, the Pledge taking ceremony was conducted by their respective Incharge units.
On Gandhi Jayanti, chief organizer of Chhamb Congress Devendra Singh Chib, Senior Congress leader and Chhamb Akhnoor in-charge Bodhraj Sharma and other party leaders paid homage to Father of the Nation by garlanding his picture.
In this connection, Nehru Yuva Kendra Kathua in collaboration with District Administration, NCC, NSS of Government Degree College Kathua organized Plogging Run in which over 200 Youth hailing from various Youth Clubs, NCC and NSS participated. Rahul Yadav, DC Kathua administered the pledge of Clean India to the youth and also flagged off the Plogging Run.
Bharatiya Yog Sansthan celebrated Gandhi Jyanti in J&K as Yog Divas at different 12 locations which include Udhampur, Janipur, Zanana Park, Digiana, Miransahib, R S Pura, Talab Tillo, Bishnah, Gandhi Nagar, Channi Himmat and Roop Nagar. Thousands of men and women and students participated in these programmes.
To pay homage to Mahatama Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, dozens of Congress activists under the leadership of Advocate Rajinder Parshad Sharma (senior Congress leader) gathered and garlanded photos of both the freedom fighters.

The 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated with enthusiasm by Magic Bus Foundation in Jammu. In the event, the entire GHSS Bahu Fort premises was cleaned with the automatic sanitization machines. Tributes were also paid to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
To mark the occasion, CRPF 84 Battalion in Ramban carried out a cleanliness drive inside the premises of its campus. On the occasion, Kishtwar Police organized Swachhta Pledge Ceremony. SSP Kishtwar Shafqat Hussain Batt administered Swachhta Pledge to all officers and officials at District Police Lines Kishtwar. A cleanliness drive was also organized at District Hospital Kishtwar by the police officials.
The Day was celebrated by Ramban police by organizing a sanitation drive in the entire district. All the ranks and files of district police Ramban participated in the drive at their respective establishments and took the pledge along with Jawans to make district Ramban a neat and clean district in the UT.
Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan celebrated birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri by organizing a musical concert “Sabarmati Ka Sant” at Durga Bhawan, Janipur, Jammu. The concert commenced with songs “Vaishnav jan too tayne khaiye”, “Bolo jai jai kar Gandhi ji ki “, “Aao aao sab jawano”, “Ek bari phi sotu laye bapu fera”.
The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was observed in J&K IMPARD, M A Road, Main Campus, Srinagar, as Cleanliness Day. On the occasion, a cleanliness drive was organized in IMPARD under the supervision of Director General Saurash Bhagat.
The birthday of Mahatma Gandhi was observed at District Hospital Ramban as Kusht Mukt Abhiyan. On the occasion, cleanliness pledge was administered to all the staff members by Medical Superintendent Dr Hamid Zargar.
