KARGIL, Mar 8: People in Kargil celebrated the birth anniversary of the 12th Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) on the 15th of Shaban, the eighth month in the Muslim lunar calendar.
Imam Mehdi (PBUH) was born on the 15th day of the month of Sha’ban on the lunar calendar around 1,200 years ago. On the occasion, Anjuman Jamiyat Ullma Isna Ashriya Kargil Ladakh and Imama Khomeni Memorial Trust Kargil (IKMT) organized special programmes where thousands of people participated from all over Kargil.
A religious procession was also taken out in Kargil town under the Banner of IKMT Kargil. The procession concluded at Jamia Masjid, Kargil. This day is also observed as Shab-e-Barat Muslim and people from all over Kargil spend last night praying and restating the holy Quran.
People also visit the graveyard of their relative and offer sweet and foods as alms and also light candle at graves as well as in their homes.
