REASI, Mar 12: The Zorawar Singh Memorial Committee, Reasi, today organised a function to celebrate the birth anniversary of General Zorawar Singh.
On the occasion, floral tributes were offered by all members to the great warrior by showering petals on his statue at Bus Stand Reasi. Candles were lit and sweets were distributed among the children.
Speaking on the occasion, members of committee threw light over the life history of General Zorawar Singh, how he conquered and established forts at Reasi in the Jammu region and Leh in the Ladakh region and constructed Mata Chandi Temple at Machail.
The members also remembered the martyrs and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the motherland. They said their sacrifices and devotion for the motherland was still relevant and everyone should follow the path shown by these personalities.
It was General Zorawar Singh of the Dogra Army who with his sword drew the borders in the Himalayas and included Ladakh, Skardu and Baltistan as integral parts of India. To commemorate the bravery, selfless service and sacrifice of Zorawar Singh, his birth anniversary is celebrated every year as General Zorawar Singh Day.
