JAMMU, Oct 17: The birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh, founder of the Jammu and Kashmir State, was observed with great enthusiasm and fervour by Yuva Rajput Sabha here today.
In this connection, a function was held in the premises of SMGS Hospital on Shalamar Road, Jammu, where members of the Yuva Rajput Sabha garlanded the statue of Maharaja Gulab Singh amidst raising of slogans in the praise of the great Dogra king. Led by Rajveer Singh, president of Yuva Rajputa Sabha, the YRS activists vowed to guard the Jammu and Kashmir State from the evil forces, which were hell bent to disturb peace by playing with the sentiment of Dogras.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajveer threw light on the life and achievements of Maharaja Gulab Singh, who formed the State of Jammu and Kashmir with his courage, bravery and visionary approach and extended its boundaries up to Gilgit- Baltistan and Lahasa in Tibet.
Lashing out at Kashmir centric approach of the successive Governments, Rajveer pointed out that Kashmir was not part of Jammu kingdom. According to history, Gulab Singh was king of Jammu, who purchased Kashmir and also annexed Ladakh to form the State of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and even extended its boundaries up to Tibet and Baltistan. He was a great couragious king who formed a largest State with the power of his sword and vision.
Prominent among those present in programme included Raghubir Singh, Surinder Singh, Mukesh Singh, Ranjeet Singh,Vikram Singh, Daljeet Singh, Barinder Singh, Rohit Singh, Davinder Singh, Sanjeev Singh and others.
