JAMMU, Nov 17: In connection with the 88th Birth Anniversary of former Dy Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Pt Mangat Ram Sharma, an impressive function was held at Shaktinagar, here today.
The function was organized by Pt Mangat Ram Sharma Fans Club & members of his family and attended by senior leaders of different political parties and civil societies, besides grass root workers of Congress party.
Prominent leaders and representatives who paid floral tributes to former Dy CM include PCC vice president and former minister Raman Bhalla, PCC vice president Kanta Bhan, general secretaries Yogesh Sawhney & Manmohan Singh, PCC Co-treasurer Rajneesh Sharma, Gardhari Lal Chalotra (Ex-MLA), Hari Singh Chib DCC (J-R) president , KL Gupta, Narinder Sharma, Uday Bhanu Chib (PYC president), Sanjeev Sharma, Zarowar Singh, Kewal Krishan Yogi, Jatin Vashisht, Des Raj Sharma, Brij Mohan sharma, Sanjeev Dubey, Ravi Shastri, Rajeev Saraf, Uttam Singh, Pawan Sharma, Kabla Singh, BK Sharma, Sumitra Devi, Deep Baradwaj, Raj Bakshi, Vijay Sharma, Gopal Sharma, Manmohan Sharma, Chander Sheikhar, Atul Sharma , HS Bagi and Rajesh Sharma- Convenor of Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma Fans Club and others.
Civil Society member included Padamshri SP Verma, Ravinder Singh, Pardeep Sharma, Naveen Sharma, Arun Nair and Vinay Gupta also paid rich tributes to Pandit Ji and recalled his services to the people.
While paying rich tributes, various speakers referred to their long association with Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma and admired his extra ordinary leadership qualities. They described Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma as one of great political figure of Jammu and Kashmir who was liked & admired by people of different walks of life and ideologies because of qualities of leadership coupled with humility and humour apart from care and concern for the poor and down trodden.
Recalling his contribution to the party and the people Bhalla described Pt MR Sharma as a great leader who was liked by one and all because of his humbleness and qualities of leadership. He also remembered his service to the people and the party in different capacities during his long political career. He regretted that the state he served in different capacities has been disbanded arbitrarily and a lot of struggle needs to be carried out to get it its due place as statehood with some constitutional guarantee.
Rajneesh Sharma (son) also recalled contributions of Pt Mangat Ram Sharma and described him as a popular leader of Jammu who was most secular, simple and dedicated Congress soldier. Rajnish said that Pandit Ji was always available and easily accessible to the general public for any help.
