JAMMU, Nov 17: In connection with the 86th birth anniversary of former Dy Chief Minister, Late Pt Mangat Ram Sharma, a function was held at Brahman Sabha, Parade Ground here today.
The function was organized by Pt Mangat Ram Sharma Fans Club led by its convener, Rajesh Sharma. The speakers paid rich tributes to former Dy CM and recalled his contributions for the State, Congress Party and society as a whole. The speakers also referred to their association with Late Sharma and admired his extra ordinary leadership qualities, especially his great concern for the poor and down trodden members of the society.
They described Pt Mangat Ram Sharma as a great leader who was liked by one and all because of his humble nature and leadership qualities. They also remembered, the popularly known `Pandit Ji’ for his service to the people and the party in different capacities like MLA, MP, Minister, Speaker, DyCM etc. He became MLA first time in 1961. He also remained Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly from 1984-87 and was elected as MP in 1996. He became DyCM during 2002.
They termed Pandit Ji as the leader of masses, especially the people at the grass root level, poor and down trodden were most dear to him. They said the real tributes to Late Pt Mangat Ram Sharma would be to follow the path shown by him, that is, the service to the people irrespective of caste, colour, creed, religion or the region.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included- Ved Parkash Sharma, president Brahman Sabha, M M Khajuria Retd DGP, Madan Lal Sharma Ex-MP, Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, Kanta Bhan, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Devinder Singh Rana-MLA, Thakur Balbir Singh-MLC, Bharat Gandhi, Parkash Sharma, G L Chalotra, Bikram Malhotra, Rajneesh Sharma (MIan), MA Qureshi, Sunil Sharma, YV Sharma, SP Sharma, Gurdharshan Singh, Ajay Khajuria, Zorawar Jamwal and others. Rajneesh Sharma also donated a cheque of Rs one lakh and one thousand to Brahman Sabha, Jammu on this occasion.
