BIS celebrates 77th Foundation Day

JAMMU, Jan 6: The Jammu and Kashmir office of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) marked the 77th Foundation Day with a celebratory event.
Tilak Raj, Director and Head of BIS Jammu Kashmir Branch, inaugurated the function, emphasizing the legacy of commitment, excellence, and progress in shaping national standards for product and service quality.
In his welcome speech, Raj highlighted BIS’s pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and safety of products that impact millions, from food to infrastructure. The event kicked off with the ManakGeet of the BIS, followed by student performances in Classical Dance and NukkadNatak.
Hitesh Yadav, Assistant Director at BIS, acknowledged the dedication of countless individuals in BIS’s success. He emphasized the collaboration of engineers, scientists, and professionals in fostering innovation and elevating standards of excellence that align with the nation’s ethos.
In a rapidly evolving world, Yadav underscored BIS’s critical role as industries diversify and technologies advance.
“BIS adapt to change, embracing new challenges to ensure the nation remains at the forefront of quality and reliability,” he said.
Mehak Rasool, a resource person, delivered a presentation on BIS activities in the Kashmir Valley and the organization’s initiative to organize Gram Panchayats in J&K.
The program saw more than 175 participants, including students who won the National/ Regional Level Quiz competition organized by BIS. Thirty-six students were awarded prizes, and BIS honored schools establishing Standard Clubs.
A spot poster-making competition was held, with KV Sunderbani, KV Sunjwan, KV Samba, and Government Girls Senior Secondary School Sujanpur, Pathankot, winning prizes.
BIS also acknowledged 91 manufacturers (BIS Licensees) for their commitment to quality, having produced products that passed quality standards for the last three years.
Niraj Kumar Mishra, Assistant Director at BIS, expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks, highlighting the event’s aim to create awareness among stakeholders about their roles in upholding the quality established by BIS in its 77-year journey.
