JAMMU, July 26: Sleuths of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) from Jammu and Kashmir carried out search and seizure in the premises of M/S Jindal Soap Fact ory, Wariyana Industrial Complex, Jalandhar.
A statement said that during the operation, it was revealed that the factory was involved in the manufacture and sale of Aluminium Alloy Bare Foil for Food Packaging without the mandatory BIS certification mark.
This blatant violation of the quality control order issued by the Government of India raised serious concerns about the consumer safety and product quality, it said.
As a consequence of the findings, a substantial quantity of finished and semi-finished aluminium foil was seized by the BIS team.
“This unscrupulous activity not only compromises the integrity of the product but also poses potential risks to unsuspecting consumers,” read the statement.
Taking swift action against the offenders, the statement said that BIS Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office is initiating proceedings under the BIS Act, 2016.
“The gravity of the violation makes the action punishable by imprisonment of up to 2 years or a fine of no less than Rs 2 Lakh,” read the statement.
BIS has been vigilant in its pursuit of eradicating the production and sale of counterfeit ISI marked products, which have been deceiving consumers while fetching undue profits for the culprits.
To ensure the authenticity of ISI Mark on products, consumers are urged to verify the genuineness by visiting the BIS website at www.bis.gov.in or through the BIS Care App.
