BIS organises sensitisation programme for Sarpanchs, Panchs

SRINAGAR, Dec 24: To aware the Sarpanchs and Panchs, about the development of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), an awareness programme was organised here today.
The programme was organised by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), for panchs and sarpanchs of 3 Blocks (Beerwah, Khag and Sukhnag) under the guidance of Assistant Commissioner Development Budgam.
During the programme, about 70 Sarpanchs, Panchs and Panchayat Samiti Members participated. Files and pamphlets about development of BIS standards were distributed among participants to enhance their knowledge about Standards in their routine day to day life.
Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS-JKBO, gave the welcome address and an overview of the working of BIS to the participants.
He talked about the role of standards in Gram Panchayats and said that BIS is the quality ecosystem of the country and caters to the needs of end users through Conformity Assessment Schemes which are based on the quality, safety and performance parameters laid down in Indian standards.
Dwivedi said that ISI Mark is a mean for providing third party guarantee of quality, safety and reliability of products and services to the consumer.
He also demonstrated ‘BIS Care App’.
Later, Uzair Qadri Resource Person presented detailed overview of standardization with a focus on Indian standards related to day-to-day life, ISI Mark Certification and Laboratory facility to support certification.
During the program the participants were apprised about significance of Standards to procure quality goods for any development activity or personal needs and participants also downloaded BIS Care app and learn to use this App for verifying the authenticity of genuine ISI Mark and Hallmarking through BIS Care App and tried various products to validate their authenticity.
Participants were amazed by knowing that they can directly raise a complaint or concern at BIS Care App and check misuse of standard mark and they expressed gratitude to BIS team for organising such type awareness program for panchayat level representatives.
