BIS organizes training program for Mentors of Standards Club

JAMMU, Sept 2: Bureau of Indian Standards, Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office successfully organized a two-day Residential Training Program for Mentors of Standards Clubs of Govt Schools of Jammu province at its Branch Office, Jammu. The program was attended by Mentors of 31 Standards Clubs.
Chief guest Subah Mehta, Joint Director, DSE Jammu, in her keynote address, said that quality assurance has become very significant and this can be achieved by creating quality consciousness in the young generation. “Youths of the country need to be prepare for the future needs,” she added and appreciated the BIS JKBO, which has established more than 90 Standard Clubs in educational institutions of Jammu and Kashmir with an aim to develop scientific approach among the students in their daily life. She stressed that such clubs should be established in each and every school of J&K.
Highlighting the objectives of the program and explaining the BIS activities, Satyadeo Lal, Senior Director and Head, Branch Office, said that the Mentor acts as the guiding force to get the activities under the standards club in a manner to channelize creativity and enhancing scientific temperament of the students. “It is therefore imperative that the Mentors themselves understand the concepts behind standards and their roles in quality ecosystem,” he added.
During the training program, technical lectures on Overview of BIS activities, concepts of quality and standardization at national and international level, types of standardization and standards, benefits of standardization, objectives’ and guidelines for Standards Clubs, Role and responsibilities of Mentors were delivered by Nisha Bura, Scientist D and Pankaj Atri, Scientist D of BIS JKBO.
During the Residential Training Program, features of BIS Website, Manakonline Portal, Know Your Standards portal for free download of Indian Standards and BIS Care App were demonstrated to the participants with examples followed by classroom/group activity on Standards Writing on a variety of subjects. The BIS initiative of capacity building of the mentors was appreciated by the participants.
The training programme was coordinated by Dr S P Pourush Shrikhandia, Head, Innovation Cell, DSE, Jammu and Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS JKBO.
