JAMMU, Aug 21: Taranjit Singh Tony, a Congress leader and elected DDC Member representing Suchetgarh, has strongly criticized the BJP government at the Centre for giving step-motherly treatment to the people of Jammu region. He has labelled the BJP Government at the Centre a ‘Government of Toll Plazas & Property Taxes’.
Addressing a delegation from Suchetgarh after submitting a memorandum of demands to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu today, Tony expressed his discontent with the BJP Government’s policies. He labelled it as a regime marked by high taxes, numerous toll plazas, and rising inflation. He accused the government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, of burdening the common man with excessive taxes.
Tony cited instances such as the introduction of property tax in Jammu and Kashmir, a concept previously unheard of in the erstwhile state. He highlighted that instead of providing much-needed support to the state, the government has escalated taxes, including GST and property taxes. He anguished over the rise in registration costs for vehicles and the proliferation of toll plazas in the Jammu region.
He also mentioned the increase in electricity costs and the installation of “Smart Meters,” which he alleges are faulty and costly. He asked the government to immediately abolish the Toll Plaza at Sarore without any further delay.
The Congress leader warned the Government not to test the patience of the people, suggesting that their dissatisfaction may be evident in upcoming elections. He called upon the people of Jammu and Kashmir to support the Congress Party, which he believes is committed to addressing citizens’ concerns.
Earlier, Tony led a delegation from the Suchetgarh constituency and met the Divisional Commissioner Jammu. The delegation highlighted various challenges faced by the people of the border constituency and submitted a memorandum of demands. The delegation included Sarpanch Sham Lal, Naib Sarpanch Roshan Lal Bhagat, Hira Fouji, Jeet Raj Bhagat and Mandeep Choudhary.
