Cong safeguarded rights of poor, downtrodden

SUCHETGARH, Sept 10: Claiming that BJP only brought miseries to the common man through price hike and heavy taxes, JKPCC chief Vikar Rasool Wani today said that Congress always protected the interests and ensured their due share and participation in every sphere of life including political empowerment right from basic institutions of democracy to highest level.
Addressing a large gathering at Suchetgarh reserved assembly segment of Jammu district today organised by SC department chairman Karan Bhagat, Wani said BJP has brought miseries through unprecedented price rise for the poor, common man, educated unemployed and daily wagers and each section of society, heavy taxations, besides snatching the lands of the poor farmers during last more than nine years of its rule.
He said the Congress shall undo the wrongs of BJP govt and present dispensation and introduce the people friendly and various pro poor policies in Jammu & Kashmir thus giving major relief to the sufferings of poor, downtrodden and others.
PCC chief traced the achievements of the Congress towards the upliftment of down trodden and oppressed sections of the society and said the Congress policies and programmes have always been directed towards the welfare of poor & downtrodden.
Wani said as the country gained freedom, the Congress introduced reservation for the SC, STs in jobs admissions and legislature and guaranteed equality in the Constitution, framed under the chairmanship of Dr BR Ambedkar, thus transforming the life of the oppressed section ensuring their due participation in every sphere. The Congress under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi gave 33 percent reservation to women including SCs apart from proportional representation to SC, STs and OBC in all tiers of Panchayats and ULBs throughout country through 73rd & 74th amendment.
Addressing gathering former DyCM Tara Chand referred to the contributions of Congress party towards upliftment of downtrodden in every sphere including political empowerment from top to bottom right upto Panchyats. He said it was Congress which framed the Reservation Act for Reserved categories in 2004 which was earlier regulated by an SRO in J&K. Tara Chand accused BJP of creating division and polarisation for vote bank politics and cautioned them not to fall prey to the exploitation of BJP and RSS in the name of religion, caste, creed and colour.
Working president Raman Bhalla lashed out at the BJP for crushing the poor especially downtrodden during it’s rule by fleecing them through unprecedented taxes on all items leading record price rise, large scale unemployment and other anti poor policies. He said the senior most leader Malikarjun Kharge is elected president of Congress party today, who also belongs to downtrodden section of the country.
Senior leaders, Balwan Singh, TS Bajwa Ex MP, Ravinder Sharma Ex- MLC, Manmohan Singh , Ved Mahajan Ex MLC, Shashi Sharma, Pawan Raina, Bhushan Dogra, Badri Nath , and others also spoke on the occasion.
