SRINAGAR, August 5: Bhartiya Janata Party on Thursday celebrated second anniversary of abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A in different parts of the Kashmir valley.
On this day in 2019, Centre abrogated special status of Jammu and Kashmir and detained hundreds of mainstream and separatist leaders, including three former Chief Ministers –Dr Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.
The main BJP function was organised at high security Churuch Lane, Sonawar, where among others National General Secretary and incharge J&K, Tarun Chug, participated.
Raising patriotic slogans, a national flag was hoisted on the occasion, where over 100 BJP leaders and workers, including women, from different parts of the valley sung national anthem.
Mr Chug and other senior leaders of the BJP said after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A, the militancy and stone pelting has witnessed sharp drop.
J&K is on way to development and prosperity, they said , adding those who ruled for the past 70 years have worked for their families only, they alleged.
They assured that BJP will work for the betterment of people of the valley.
Similar functions were held in other parts of the valley.
In Anantnag in south Kashmir , a large number of BJP supporters, including women, joined ‘Tringa rally’ and later hoisted national flag at Khanabal. Some shops and business establishments remained closed in Anantnag and very less number of vehicles plied.
Addressing on the occasion, Rumisa Rafiq, senior BJP leader, who hoisted national flag on this day last year at Lal Chowk Anantnag, said abrogation of special status of J&K has brought development and prosperity.
Without naming any party or leader, she said Kashmiri youths were being misled and forced to take arms in the past. Now BJP government at the Centre is helping youths in every field of life.
She said leaders in the past were sending their children to foreign countries for studies while children of poor families were being handed over guns.
However, she said the valley youth are on the path of development and prosperity and Centre has announced a number of schemes for them. (Agencies)
