JAMMU, Sept 13: Congress leader and DDC Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony expressed his deep concern over the neglect of border areas during the nine years of BJP rule at the Centre. He lamented that the people residing in these areas have received nothing but hollow promises from the Government.
Speaking to media persons after inaugurating blacktopping and widening of a road in village Abdal falling in Suchetgarh constituency, Tony raised serious concern over the pressing issues being faced by border residents. He expressed serious concern about the non-payment of compensation to individuals whose land was covered under the fencing at the Zero Line along the borders.
“It is a great irony that after nine years of BJP rule at the Centre, the border people have received nothing except hollow promises,” Tony stated. He expressed his disappointment that the Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh, recently visited Jammu and did not speak a single word about the problems faced by the people residing in border areas.
The Congress leader emphasized that in 2014, the BJP had promised to compensate farmers who could not cultivate their land due to the barbed wire fencing on the borders. However, no compensation has been provided to date, despite seven years having passed, leaving the affected farmers in a state of penury.
Tony asked the Central Government to fulfill its commitment by providing adequate compensation to the aggrieved farmers residing in border areas. He underscored the urgency of addressing this long standing issue and ensuring that the promises made are kept.
Meanwhile, the Congress leader called upon the Commissioner Secretary of the Rural Development Department to prioritize the development of the rural sector, with particular attention to improving the roads at the Zero Line along the border. Enhancing infrastructure in these regions is crucial for both economic development and national security.
Congress leader, Sham Lal Bhagat and Arjun Choudhary were also present on the occasion.
