JAMMU, Jan 17: The State unit of BJP made it clear that Dr. Jitendra Singh, MP Udhampur-Doda-Kathua Parliamentary Constituency, never officially adopted Saddal village in Udhampur district and that any doubt in this regard can be verified from the records of Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana.
BJP State spokesperson, Balbir Ram Rattan, while speaking to media persons along with senior leader S. Varinderjeet Singh said Dr. Jitendra Singh who has contributed nearly Rs 80 lakh from his voluntary sources for reconstruction of this village to provide some succour to the flood ravaged people of Saddal for which he deserved credit and not criticism.
He said Dr. Jitendra Singh has visited the village number of times after the incident and got the road constructed under PMGSY for connecting Saddal with the district.
Balbir said, it is not the MP but the Jammu & Kashmir Bank which has adopted this village and so far spent Rs one crore to construct houses for the poor and genuinely deserving families. Besides, only an existing village falls under the parameters of officially adopting a village under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana . An MP can adopt an existing village which is underdeveloped and develop it as Model village. But Saddal village had been completely washed out by floods and required total re-construction. How can a village which does not exist on ground be adopted by an MP?, he asked?
Balbir expressed the hope that media will appreciate the concern shown by MP for the welfare of the flood ravaged villagers by by contriubting Rs 80 crore and constructing road to it.
