JAMMU, Mar 21: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed serious concern over the conduct of certain legislators, accusing them of disrupting the House proceedings and making baseless allegations against constitutional authorities.
Party spokespersons GL Raina and Dr Abhijeet Jasrotia, along with media incharge Dr Pardeep Mahotra, addressed a press conference at the party headquarters, stressing the need for maintaining parliamentary decorum.
Former MLC GL Raina underlined that parliamentary customs, conventions, and etiquette must be adhered to, both inside and outside the House. He emphasized that rules and past precedents govern legislative conduct, and MLAs must act responsibly, refraining from abusing their privileges for personal or political gains. Raina also highlighted that while the House has the authority to determine privilege matters, members must be mindful of their limitations.
Dr Abhijeet Jasrotia criticized the alleged misconduct of AAP MLA Mehraj Mallik, stating that the legislator not only made unfounded accusations against the office of the Lieutenant Governor (LG) but also hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. He accused the National Conference (NC) of using its alliance partner, the AAP, to divert public attention from pressing issues in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jasrotia further asserted that it is the responsibility of the presiding authority to ensure members do not cross their limits. He condemned the use of foul language against the LG, particularly by a party facing allegations of corruption and scams. The BJP has demanded strict action against Mehraj Mallik, calling for his immediate dismissal from the Legislative Assembly.
The Party also criticized the silence of the NC on the matter, terming it self-explanatory. BJP leaders reiterated their commitment to upholding the dignity of legislative institutions and ensuring accountability for any breach of decorum.
