BJP Core Group to discuss impact of Kashmir situation on party image

JAMMU, Aug 5: As the situation continues to remain volatile in Kashmir valley for the last 28 days, the ruling alliance partner BJP is going to convene its significant Core Group meeting here tomorrow for discussing the impact   of prevailing situation on the party image in Jammu and other parts of the country.
BJP national vice-president and incharge J&K affairs, Avinash Rai Khanna is arriving here tomorrow morning for chairing the Core Group meeting, which will be held at the State Guest House at 11 am, sources in BJP circles told the Excelsior.
The Core Group meet will be followed by another significant meeting of the party Legislators, Members of Parliament and the party office bearers at 3 p.m, wherein same agenda will be discussed, sources added.
While elaborating sources said that prevailing situation in Kashmir valley, which has been reeling under vicious circles of violent protests resulting into death of more than 50 persons and injuries to thousands of people, including security personnel following the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani in an encounter on July 8, is the main agenda of tomorrow meetings.
Besides soliciting feedback on the prevailing situation  vis-à-vis the measures being taken by the coalition Government, suggestions would also be sought from the participating members for a way out of the crisis and  further course of action, sources said.
The Core Group and other significant meeting will particularly discuss the impact of prevailing situation on image of the BJP as party feels that deteriorating state of affairs in Valley was adversely affecting  popularity of the party among  masses, particularly nationalist forces in Jammu and other parts of the country, sources further said.
According to the sources, during the meetings, some members  of the Core Group and party office bearers are likely to convey their reservations over some controversial statements emanating from the Government quarters.
Besides deliberating over  Kashmir situation and its consequent impact on BJP image, the party meetings will also discuss arrangements for the proposed celebration programmes in Jammu from August 9 to             August 23, in connection with Independence Day.
After taking feedback and suggestions from the party leaders, sources said that Avinash Rai Khanna will apprise the party high command about the sentiments of the State BJP unit.
Meanwhile, the Union Minister for Textile, Smriti Irani, BJP national general secretary and incharge J&K Affairs, Ram Madhav and several important personalities from the Sangh Parivar are arriving here tomorrow for a convention of India Foundation Forum at Patnitop.
