JAMMU, Mar 27: Targeting BJP leadership, Pradesh Congress today alleged that BJP was crushing the rights of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
Addressing one day Scheduled Castes (SCs) conference organized by Pradesh Youth Congress at Qasim Nagar, in Gandhi Nagar today former Minister and PCC vice president Raman Bhalla said that due to caste prejudice ruling BJP has gagged voice of the weaker sections and ignored wishes and aspirations of people in general and weaker sections in particular.
He reminded that in 2014 Parliament and Assembly elections, SCs had voted in favour of BJP and party had won all the reserved assembly seats for SCs but after attaining power this party has abandoned this section due to caste prejudice. “It is a historical fact that BJP leadership has always tried its best to snatch constitutional rights from the weaker sections be it SCs, STs or OBCs”, Bhalla said and added that despite getting support from weaker sections BJP has not given adequate representation to SCs.
He recalled that it was all due to the efforts of Congress party that many initiatives were taken for the upliftment and empowerment of the weaker sections but the present regime has derailed all such initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Shishpal Singh National secretary IYC and Pranav Shagotra, PYC chief, lambasted BJP for pursuing anti weaker section policies, stating that it has callously ignored the interests of SC population. They said that BJP has snatched constitutional rights from the weaker sections just to further interests of big business houses.
“The efforts made with regard to empowerment of weaker sections by Congress ministers have been undone by the present dispensation that lacks the sensitivity of addressing to the issues confronting these segments of society”, they said and added that BJP has totally failed in delivering justice to the people belonging to reserved categories.
Prominent among those who also spoke on the occasion included Satish Sharma, Rajvir Manhas, Balbir Singh, Chetan Wanchoo, Ricky Dalotra, Vijay Hiteshi, Hoshiar Singh, Rakesh Bhagat, Kulbushan Kumar and others.
