BJP delegation meets Goswami, seeks action against those involved in Kishtwar violence

JAMMU, Aug 16: A delegation of senior leaders of BJP led by its State president Jugal Kishore Sharma called on visiting Union Home Secretary, Anil Goswami here today and submitted a memorandum to him containing the facts related to the recent communal violence in Kishtwar.
The other members of the delegation included Leader of Legislative Party Ashok Khajuria, former State President Shamsher Singh Manhas, State General Secretaries Kavinder Gupta, Bali Bhagat and Rajiv Jasrotia.
The BJP leaders expressed serious concern over the incident and the developments which took place thereafter.
The Union Home Secretary assured the delegation of appropriate action.
The memorandum which was addressed to Union Home Minister, while highlighted the facts about the August 9 violence said some days before Eid-ul-Fitr, the Pakistan sponsored groups like Lashakar-e- Toiba / Hizbul Mujahidin had pasted posters outside Jamia Masjid Kishtwar and its surroundings (the copy of which may be in the record of local police and the intelligence agencies) with the photos of Maqbool Butt, Afzal Guru and Shabir Shah exhorting Muslim youth to be prepared for an armed struggle to avenge the death of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat.
It also highlighted the sequence of events fortnight before the violence and said despite timely warning the administration about the situation and impending dangers, the matter was not taken seriously by it resulting in worst ever communal violence in the district and riots.
In these riots 69 vehicles, 165 shops, and seven hotles/ restaurants most of them belonging to minority community were destroyed.
The delegation demanded that the role of Ex MoS Home, Sajjad Kitchloo be probed, Security pickets be established, VDC be strengthened, full compensation be granted to affected families, ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh be granted to violence hit people, free timber and GSI sheets be supplied to victims of violence, members of minority community be granted gun license, the Government employees who have taken active part in arson and looting be identified and dealt under law. Besides, action be taken against DIG, Ashqor Wani, SDPO Farooq Qaiser, Mushtaq Ahemed, DySP DAR, Nayeem Matto SI and their PSOs.
