BJP demands Sonia to apologise for Nirupam’s remarks against Smriti Irani

NEW DELHI, Dec 21: The BJP today slammed Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam for his derogatory remarks against BJP MP Smriti Irani and demanded that Congress president Sonia Gandhi apologise for his remarks.
Ms Irani has sent a defamation notice to Mr Nirupam for his ‘personal attack’ on the TV actress-turned-politician during a debate on a TV news channel yesterday.
“Sanjay Nirupam’s remarks are the unfortunate which cannot be described in words. The BJP will boycott him at every place. None of our spokesperson will sit with Nirupam on any TV debate,” BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters.
He said the BJP has taken the ‘personal attack’ made by Mr Nirupam very seriously.
“We would like Sonia Gandhi to take action against Sanjay Nirupam and apologise for his comments. If Sonia Gandhi fails to respond, the BJP will protest against her,” Mr Prasad added.
Meanwhile, Mr Nirupam has said his remarks against the BJP women cell president were being distorted and taken out of context.
“Smriti Irani things taken out of context, people have to see the full debate and understand the context,” he said on twitter. (UNI)
