JAMMU, Jan 8: National Conference (NC) president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah has criticized the previous undemocratic regimes for their alleged failure to ensure equitable development in Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Farooq Abdullah highlighted the “deteriorating” civic infrastructure in Jammu city as proof that the promises made by previous regimes had been hollow.
Dr Farooq made these comments during meetings with several delegations from Poonch, Katra, Jammu Rural and Kathua at his residence in Bathindi, Jammu.
Among those present were Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, former minister and Additional General Secretary, and Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of Jammu.
He expressed concern over the worsening daily struggles of the public, particularly in Jammu city.
“The people here are dealing with numerous civic issues because of the authorities’ neglect over the past ten years. The promises made by the BJP-led Jammu Municipal Corporation are now exposed as mere words. The last monsoon season clearly showed the failure of these claims,” Dr Farooq stated.
He accused the BJP of worsening the suffering of the people and reaffirmed that NC is committed to rectifying these issues.
He also criticized the BJP for using its right-wing ideology as an excuse to avoid answering questions about the declining civic amenities in the region.
He urged NC workers to prepare for the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) and Panchayat elections.
“Jammu and Srinagar need a comprehensive urban renewal plan to address the growing population’s needs. NC is the only party with the vision to tackle these issues, as outlined in our manifesto. The BJP excels in rhetoric but fails to take action,” Dr Farooq added.
Meanwhile, Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son, Omar Abdullah, the NC Vice President and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, extended their greetings to the people on the 717th Urs of Hazrat Abdul Rehman Bulbul Shah Sahib (RA).
The duo prayed for peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir on this auspicious occasion.
Party leaders, including General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, and other NC representatives, also conveyed their warm wishes to the public.
