JAMMU, Aug 6: JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla today accused the BJP of exploiting the people of Jammu and Kashmir under the guise of promises of a brighter future, controlling prices and providing employment.
Bhalla asserted that J&K lost its identity under BJP rule, losing its status, rights over jobs and land, and opportunities for trade and business. He spoke to the residents of Shankar Nagar (Ward-49), Channi Ramma, Bahu Constituency, during an event organized by ex-corporator Kamal Singh.
The JKPCC leader criticized the BJP for creating an atmosphere of political uncertainty and divisiveness, which he said has deteriorated living conditions in J&K. He emphasized the need for restoring Statehood to J&K to address the disconnect between the Centre and the people. Bhalla argued that Congress is the only viable alternative to the BJP’s divisive policies and promised to restore the State’s lost glory if elected.
Highlighting the Congress party’s historical welfare measures, Bhalla lamented the neglect J&K faced in the last decade under BJP rule. He called for unity among civil society, students, youth, traders and farmers to defeat those who betrayed the cause of the Dogra land. He also lashed out at the BJP for its policies and said that attempts are being made to silence those who speak against the ruling party.
Bhalla also criticized the BJP for silencing dissent and maintaining a bureaucratic grip over J&K, resulting in a prolonged absence of an elected government. He said the people of J&K have been left without an elected government for the last six years as the last Assembly elections were held in 2014. He demanded an explanation from the BJP for the delay in holding elections and urged for immediate restoration of democracy in the region.
