JAMMU, May 16: National Conference additional general secretary and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today said the ongoing Lok Sabha elections across Jammu and Kashmir are sending a terse message to the BJP about its disconnect with the people and deep rooted anger over snatching their rights and status post August 2019.
On his return after campaign in North Kashmir along with the National Conference vice president and the Party candidate for Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency Omar Abdullah, Sadhotra said the BJP has acknowledged that it had no space in the hearts and minds of the people of Valley by not fielding its own candidates for the three important seats. The scenario is no different in the two seats the BJP contested in the Jammu region where its candidates are destined to face humiliating defeat.
“Perhaps sensing the mood of voters due to anger over non-performance of its candidates in the two Jammu seats, the BJP decided to avoid direct contest with INDIA bloc for fear of drubbing by the voters”, Sadhotra said, adding that this is admission of the lack of genuine grassroots presence in the region.
He said people of Jammu and Kashmir feel marginalized due to the policies adopted by the BJP headed dispensation at the Centre and the strong sentiment stems largely from the aftermath of the 2019 abrogation of Article 370, which stripped the region of its special status, snatching of statehood and fear of losing rights on jobs and lands by the bonafide state subjects.
Tremendous response of the people to National Conference and its Parliamentary candidates shows that people are also anxiously waiting for Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections to teach BJP a lesson.
Referring to recent statements of BJP National general secretary, Tarun Chugh, he said that he is naïve about Jammu and Kashmir politics and history. Had Chugh been well versed with the history, he would have known the pioneering ‘Land to Tiller’ under the revolutionary Land Reforms Act under the umbrella of Article 370.
Sadhotra said the ongoing elections will teach the BJP a befitting lesson for what they have done to Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019 and people of Jammu and Kashmir have made up their mind to throw BJP beyond Lakhanpur.
