Srinagar, Mar 13: President of the People’s Democratic Party and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, today accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating measures to isolate and harm Muslims in India.
Addressing the media here, Mufti highlighted the BJP’s failures over the past decade, including the inability to address rising unemployment, farmer suicides and inflation.
She alleged that the BJP was now resorting to divisive tactics, particularly targeting Muslims, with the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) being the latest example.
Calling on both Hindus and Muslims to see through these tactics, the PDP president emphasized the importance of democracy and urged Muslims to exercise their voting rights to counter the BJP’s agenda.

“It is imperative for Muslims across the country to give a resounding response to the BJP through the ballot box,” she urged.
Responding to questions, the former CM expressed concerns about the fragile nature of J&K and emphasized the need for expert consultation before implementing projects that could impact the region’s ecology and economy.
She cited the example of the fruit industry, highlighting the importance of preserving apple orchards and local livelihoods amidst developmental projects.
“The horticulture sector serves as the foundation of our economy. While railway initiatives bring benefits, they must not involve the sacrifice of apple trees or the disruption of local livelihoods,” she said.
She warned against repeating the mistakes witnessed in Uttarakhand and stressed the necessity of a proper mechanism and expert opinions to safeguard J&K’s interests.
