BJP fails to provide justice to OBCs: AIBCU

JAMMU, Apr 20: All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) has accused the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in the Centre and leadership in the Union Territory (UT) of failing to deliver justice to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement, Prof Kali Dass, General Secretary, AIBCU, said the Mandal Commission Report was a landmark judgement by the Apex Court in 1992, which was expected to bring justice and equality to marginalized communities in India.
“However, despite its implementation in all states, the BJP-led government failed to provide the same justice to the OBC community in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
He said despite making several promises, the BJP failed to provide due share to the OBCs in the State, who have been struggling for their rights for years.
“The promises made by the BJP before the Lok Sabha elections of 2014 and 2019 were merely words, and the OBCs have been left disappointed and dejected,” he said.
According to him, the BJP had its own agenda to promote general categories under which it (BJP) granted 10% EWS quota, 4% for ALC-LOC, and 4 % for another “self-created” Pahari speaking people category.
He further said that more than 15 classes were added to the JK OSC list by the Government just to dilute the reservation provisions meant for OBCs.
He said despite the attractive and front-line news and social media campaigns promising reservation bills for OBCs in the winter Parliament of 2023, both sessions ended without any significant progress.
The nine-year rule of the BJP under the OBC Prime Minister, according to him, failed to bring any real change for the OBC community in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said it is high time for the BJP and other political parties to take concrete steps towards providing justice and equality to marginalized communities, including the OBCs.
“The failure to do so is a clear indication of the lack of commitment towards the principles of democracy and the Constitution,” he observed.
