JAMMU, July 7: Former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today claimed that after the formation of the BJP Govt the unemployed Jammu youth continue to bear the brunt of the most discriminatory agenda of their rule.
While interacting with youth at Greater Kailash Ward-68 in Gandhi Nagar constituency Bhalla said that BJP has always exploited the sentiments of youth by making false promises every time particularly during elections but practically they did nothing. Its real face stood exposed during past six years. He said employment policy of BJP Government has badly shattered interest of educated unemployed youth especially from Jammu. This policy led to harassment and ultimately exploitation of educated youth and serves no propose. As the unemployed youth are already suffering a lot due to disturbance in J&K for more than two decades, this is a mockery with the youth to engage them temporarily both in Gazetted and Non-Gazetted cadre, ” he added.
Bhalla slammed BJP’s claim that the move to bring J&K under the Centre’s rule as a Union Territory would promote private investments in the region as well as employment but failed after making commitment to fill up thousands of pending vacancies in J&K in a transparent and fast-tracked manner, thus, betraying them after raising the expectations of unemployed youth in J&K.
With about almost a year having passed by, and nothing substantial being done till now, the memory of all these promises that were made rekindle a feeling of agony and angst among the youth of this newly carved-out UT. Despite all the assurances, the youth seem to have been made to swallow the bitter pill of reconciling with the fact that these are ‘hollow promises’, which were then made to soothe the heartburn and resentment that the abrogation of Article 370 and downgrading of J&K’s statehood might have caused, Bhalla added.
Since the country’s unemployment rate is at a 50-year high, touching a figure of 6.1 percent, the unemployment figures with regard to J&K are even more alarming. The unemployment rate in the erstwhile state stood at 15.89 percent in 2019, making it one of the worst performers on the job generation front. He said Govt has lost its credibility due to mis-governance. There was total chaos and confusion among people as BJP leadership failed to remove public apprehensions.
