JAMMU, May 19: A mass contact programme was organized in Jammu West Constituency organised by Rajesh Sharma, vice president DCC Jammu (Urban).
The programme was presided over by JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla in presence of former Minister J&K Yogesh Sawhney. The discussions during the meeting were held on the upcoming local body elections.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla accused the BJP Govt of putting the Union Territory’s interests and development “subservient to the pleasure of its vested interests”. He said the “lack of cohesion and vision” has made the people of Jammu and Kashmir suffer on the development front. “Despite being in power at the Centre and in Jammu and Kashmir, the party has failed miserably when it comes to governance and let Jammu and Kashmir down on all fronts,” he said, adding that the BJP has nothing to showcase as its achievement.
Bhalla referring to the issues confronting the people of Jammu and Kashmir, said in the absence of an elected government, the lieutenant governor-led administration has failed to give a push to the schemes and projects aimed at overall development and welfare of various areas and different segments of the society.”We will keep pursuing and highlighting every issue, major or minor, to see Jammu and Kashmir progress and prosper, notwithstanding the odds,” the Congress leader said.
Bhalla reminded the BJP of the massive 2014 Jammu mandate for development and welfare and said that instead of doing a little bit in this regard they pushed the entire region to the wall. The developmental machinery came to a grinding halt and the utility services suffered major jolt due to the self-centred approach of the BJP leaders.
Commenting on the recent row on CUET exam, he said that students of J&K are extremely distressed that they have been alloted centres outside Jammu & Kashmir. The former Minister also said that it will be a major disadvantage to those who may be financially struggling, the administration should realise that education and opportunity should not be compromised. Bhalla sought LG Administration as scores of Jammu Kashmir students are in distress because of National Testing Agency (NTA) designating their exam Centres for the scheduled Common University Entrance Test (CUET) outside the Union Territory.
Prominent among those present on the occasion include Sewadal chief Vijay Sharma Babbi, Dara Singh, Sanjeev Panda, Manu Jamwal, Gulashan Kumar, Rajesh Sharma, Vijay Malhotra and others.
