SRINAGAR, Nov 14: While claiming that Bharatiya Janata Party has been ignoring the public sufferings, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Vikar Rasool Wani today alleged that the BJP has brought J&K to the brink of destruction.
Talking to media-persons after a joining function here today, Wani mentioned that nine years have passed since the last election was held in J&K and events like UT-Diwas and others are being held to befool people.
“The last election was held in November 2014, and this month marks completion of nine years. We are now in the 10th year with no election in J&K while the terms of ULBs, Panchayats, and Municipalities have also ended. The BJP has brought J&K to the brink of destruction,” he asserted.
PCC chief disclosed that Congress will pass resolutions pressing for addressing the issues faced by the people during the executive council meeting being held in Jammu shortly.
He emphasized that people are facing a wide range of issues, which the BJP has been ignoring, leaving them to fend for themselves. “We see UT Diwas being held just to befool people, and now I have heard they are going to start a public contact program, ignoring the basic public issues.”

Wani said J&K has the highest number of unemployment across the country, with the administration hardly bothered to replace retiring individuals in districts. “This would have provided jobs to unemployed youth; the irony is that lakhs of youth have been rendered jobless and have become overage. At the same time, since 2010, we have not seen teacher posts being advertised, which would have accommodated our youth,” he said.
Vikar mentioned that people are facing issues in terms of getting inadequate ration, retirees facing problems with pension, coupled with the installation of smart meters, which, he said, is taking a toll on people. “We have been protesting against the installation for quite some time, but despite that, the authorities are proceeding with the process, making the lives of people difficult,” he added.
Wani informed that Party’s executive committee meeting is scheduled to be held on November 20 in Jammu, and will be attended by party leaders and CWC members.
“In the meeting, we will pass several resolutions in favour of the people, including pressing for resolving the inadequacy of ration, waiving off KCC loans, announcing the conduct of Assembly elections, and the restoration of Statehood,” Wani said.
