BJP keeps all options open for Govt formation, names observers

NEW DELHI : Keeping all options open regarding government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP today appointed senior party leaders Arun Jaitley and Arun Singh as observers to ascertain views of party MLAs in the state, sources said. Both the leaders will visit the state in a couple of days to ascertain the views of the newly-elected BJP MLAs. BJP leaders JP Nadda and Vinay Sahstrabuddhe have been appointed as observers to oversee the election of the leader of the legislature party in Jharkhand.
“All options are open for us, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have supported the BJP, we will try all options,” Mr Nadda told reporters after a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Board, the highest decision making body of the party. The Parliamentary Board met to discuss strategy for Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand.
In its best ever performance, the BJP has emerged as the second largest party with 25 seats in the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly with the PDP winning the highest 28 seats. The National Conference and the Congress managed to bag 15 and 12 seats respectively.
The BJP Parliamentary Board meeting was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president Amit Shah, senior leaders Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, M Venkaiah Naidu and others.
In Jharkhand, the BJP and its allies have got an absolute majority, winning 42 of the 81 Assembly seats. (AGENCIES)
