KATHUA, Mar 14: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Trade Unionist P.C Sharma has appealed the Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha to regularise 60,000 daily wagers of all departments who are registered on Government web-portal.
In a statement issued here, today he said being trade union leader he spearheaded a prolonged agitation for 20 years for the regularization of these hapless workers and their demand is genuine and justified.
He said in 1994 blanket ban on regularization of daily wagers was imposed but due to lack of manpower in various departments they were engaged time to time for the smooth functioning of Government organs. Although daily wagers were not engaged against any particular policy but their services have been utilized in the interest of Government on essential works without any break. They were promised regularisation from time to time but all in vain.
He said daily wagers are poor who are engaged on essential duties. They sacrificed their life in the hope of regularization. Being the pillars on whose back the organizations are running. Some of them even died while rendering their services but their future is in shambles as their genuine right is not provided to them. Even they are not getting minimum wages as per Minimum Wage Act.
Sharma said that the Government approved the DPC process only that was collapsed during unbundling of PDD at the time of conversion to corporations but it will not redress the issue of regularization of daily wagers as there are no sufficient posts to incorporate all of them. The matter can only be resolved by creation of new posts, the proposal for which has been mooted by his organisation and recommended by then Chief Engineer EM&RE Jammu.
He appealed Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh for their personal intervention in framing a concrete policy in this regard.
