JAMMU, Jan 5: BJP district vice president Kishtwar, Ravi Kumar Thakur has demanded immediate release of pending wages to Villager Defence Committee (VDC) members in erstwhile Doda district who are without the wages for last two years.
In a statement issued here, today Ravi Thakur said that the VDC members and SPOs are facing many hardships for non payment of wages for last two years and some of them are at the verge of starvation. He said the Government has no clear cut policy on these hapless people who played a yeoman’s role in fighting terrorism in hilly belts of Jammu and restored confidence among the people when terrorism was on the peak. Many of the VDC members and SPOs even laid down their lives in fighting terrorism, he added.
He said some of the VDC SPOs were terminated by the Government who attained age of 60 but they were not paid any compensation despite serving the Police Department for near three decades. He demanded that their cases be also settled besides the wages of the VDCs be released without any delay.
