JAMMU, May 26: BJP spokesperson and former MLC, G L Raina and party co in charge Kashmir, H L Bhat have expressed their grave concern over the missing of names of non migrant Kashmir Pandits in voter lists and failure of concerned authorities to get them enrolled in the electoral rolls.
In a joint statement the BJP leaders demanded immediate action against the concerned BLOs for not entering their names in the electoral rolls despite the fact that they did not leave Kashmir during turmoil but stayed there for last 34 years.
They said instead of appreciating their gesture to cast the vote yesterday as the citizens of India, the members of minorities at various places in Anantnag district were not allowed by the concerned polling staff to cast their vote on the plea that their names did not figure in voter lists despite the fact that they had epic cards and previous voter lists with them.
Terming it a part of conspiracy the BJP leaders said the administration instead of taking cognizance that these people stayed in Valley during over three decade turmoil and appreciating them to take part in the festival of democracy subjected them to lot of humiliation by not allowing them to cast the vote.
They said the concerned BLOs were liable to get their names enrolled in voter lists which they failed to do and Government should order a probe into the functioning of such BLOs as why they deprived these hapless people from exercising their democratic right.
The BJP leaders said does the administration want to give an impression by denying vote to the people who are aborigines of Kashmir that they are not residents of Kashmir which is a serious issue. The Election Commission should take the cognizance of the same as the arbitrary role of the BLOs concerned and administration has hurt the feelings of the non migrant Kashmiri Pandits in Valley.
