JAMMU, Apr 28: A delegation of BJP MPs and Legislators from the State today called on Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley at New Delhi and demanded that All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) be established in Jammu as there is earnest need of setting up of a such premier institute of medical sciences in the region which lacks specialized facilities in health care.
Earlier, the delegation called on Union Minister in PMO with Independent Charge of North Eastern States Dr Jitendra Singh and put the demand before him. It also called on BJP MP and Incharge J&K Avinash Rai Khanna and apprised him of the feelings of the people of the region in this regard.
Later, Dr Jitendra Singh and Mr Khanna also accompanied the delegation to Mr Jaitley where they forcefully put forth their demand. The delegation informed the Union Minister that the interests of Jammu people who have suffered a lot due to regional imbalances in last 67 years especially in health sector shouldn’t be compromised this time.
They said Jammu is the fittest case for establishing the AIIMS as it has no such premier institute of medical science.
The other members of delegation included BJP State president and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, ex president and MP(RS), Shamsher Singh Manhas, MLAs Sat Sharma (CA), Rajesh Gupta, Sham Choudhary, Rajeev Sharma and Dr D K Manyal.
Later, Sat Sharma and Rajesh Gupta told Excelsior that Mr Jaitley was very positive and he assured that the demand will be considered. They also demanded a probe that who was responsible for sabotaging the proposal of AIIMS which was sanctioned for Jammu region during the Vajpayee led Government and the announcement of which was made by then Union Minister Sushma Swaraj.
