JAMMU, Jan 3: A Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader’s son sustained severe injuries after he was shot at by a Government employee over a parking dispute here today.

The incident occurred around 12 noon when Advocate Kanav Sharma son of Chander Mohan Sharma was parking his vehicle near a PDD lineman’s room near Electric Sub-Station New Plot, Jammu, a police official said.

The act was objected to by the PDD employee, Ravinder Singh, leading to a heated brawl, he said, adding that the argument quickly turned physical, during which Ravinder Singh reportedly drew his licensed pistol and fired two rounds at Kanav Sharma, resulting in severe injuries to Sharma.
Thereafter, the injured advocate, who is also the District President of the Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), was rushed to Sarwal Hospital for first aid and later shifted to Government Medical College Jammu for further treatment, the police official said.
In the meantime, he said, the accused Ravinder Singh fled the scene after committing the crime.
He said followed by this, the local police immediately secured the crime scene, deploying forensic experts and crime photographers to gather evidence.
“A coordinated effort involving both technical surveillance and human intelligence led to the swift arrest of the accused Ravinder Singh within six hours,” he said.
Police have also seized from the possession of the accused a weapon used in the commissioning of the crime.
Ravinder Singh, the Government employee, currently posted at Parade, was on duty at New Plot at the time of incident, added the police official.
Police have registered a case FIR number 01/2025 under the relevant sections of the law and started further investigation into the matter.
The condition of the injured advocate is stated to be stable at Government Medical College Jammu, where he has been visited by several well-wishers, including the Bar Association Jammu’s current President Nirmal Kotwal and former President Abhinav Sharma among other advocates and political leaders.
