CHENANI, Jan 16: Infuriated over the eviction of poor and marginalized farmers besides bulldozing of their houses, a contingent of AAP activists spearheaded by Harsh Dev Singh, former Minister and Chairman SCC, staged a protest demonstration in Chenani today.
The protesters raised slogans and accused the Govt of harassing the downtrodden on the pretext of encroachments and retrieval of State lands in the erstwhile State of J&K.
Addressing the media, Harsh Dev Singh said the indigent farmers, poor and the hapless in J&K are being evicted from their marginal land holdings in the name of anti-encroachment drive while the corrupt leaders and bureaucrats including BJP ex-Ministers and legislators continue to treat state and forest lands as their father’s fiefdom.
“They are openly raising palatial buildings on such lands with active support of the officials of Revenue, Forests and local bodies,” Harsh said and rued that the move of the Govt to divest the poor farmers and agriculturalists of their lands and work places was not loathsome but sinful.
“The poor farmers at the upper reaches in the hinterland have made the land worth cultivation with their sweat and blood. These marginal land holdings are the only source of their bread and butter and by evicting them from their lands, the J&K administration has forced the poor and downtrodden farmers to face starvation and other miseries. The BJP Govt is pro-rich and anti-poor which shall pay heavy price for its sins in the days to come,” Harsh said and sought immediate relief and rehabilitation for the poor farmers who have been rendered homeless by the administration.
Holding BJP’s proxy rule in J&K culpable for its double standards and running two sets of laws in J&K , Harsh Dev Singh said while the Govt has pressed its JCBs to bull doze the houses of the poor and marginalized farmers, it has turned a blind eye over the continued stay of BJP leaders in Estates Bungalows despite their eviction orders having been issued by the High Court. “Strange that even the Anti Corruption bodies have buried their heads in sand and failed to take cognizance of blatant irregularities committed by the corrupt officers-BJP leaders’ nexus”, asserted Singh.
